With the new i4 M50, BMW’s M division has set its sights on spreading the word that the switch to electrification will not dull the pure driving experience of their hottest models.

This new i4 variant comes after the successful launch of the more pedestrian BMW i4 eDrive40 earlier this year, and promises to offer its owners the classic M formula of agility, dynamism, and precision, even in an electrified world.

Traction is generated courtesy of two electric motors, delivering a combined maximum output of 544hp. Power isn’t the only thing that BMW opted to add to the i4 M50 - it features a bespoke adaptive M suspension with individually configured springs and dampers in the front and air suspension at the rear, specially designed anti-roll bars, and an additional spring strut tower brace in the front end.Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1657932313968 I4m50The BMW i4 M50 also features a specially designed boost function, available whenever SPORT mode is engaged, and increases the system’s combined drive power by 68 hp to its maximum of 544 hp for over ten seconds.

Its fully electric all-wheel-drive system (with rear-wheel bias) is able to achieve outstanding levels of traction, directional stability, and agility by adjusting the drive torque accordingly, even without the use of its traction control system. On the charging front, the BMW i4 M50’s 83.9 kWh battery and the charge controls will allow for DC charging at rates of up to 205 kW, and AC charging up to 11 kW.Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1657932328039 I4m501You can view the BMW i4 M50 at the Performance Munich Autos showroom from Monday, 18 July 2022.
