Five Burger Places That You Cannot Miss! - mGuides
The burger might have started as a meat patty between two buns, accompanied by some condiments and vegetables, but the modern-day iteration has taken it to a whole new level.
For today's mGuide, it's all about burgers. We daresay that burgers are simple comfort food for many people, but with so many chefs and restaurants putting their own creative spin on the humble burger, it's no longer just something simple, but also a properly gourmet creation.
One Fattened Calf
They may be the newest name on this list, having only celebrated their first anniversary recently, but One Fattened Calf has shown that even a new player can punch above their weight, not to mention consistently too. Their shop is small, with approximately 50% (or perhaps a little more) dedicated just to the kitchen, leaving not as many seats for customers.
But take a whiff of the scents emitting from their shop and you’ll understand why. Unlike most burger places, One Fattened Calf prepares and bakes all their bread in-house, on top of all the other ingredients for their burgers. The perfume of freshly baked bread alone is enough to entice hungry customers, not to mention their decadent Butterburger, which your doctor will definitely disapprove of, but will join you in polishing off anyway.

Hammee’s
The only burger stall on this list. Literally. Hammee’s is not located in a standalone shop. Instead, it roosts in Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre. Not the most convenient place to get to, but this doesn’t stop people from coming, and a minimal waiting time of half an hour isn’t unheard of.
The menu is simple, with a beef, fish and crispy chicken burger respectively. Before you have any preconceived notions on how good a burger can be, try it and you’ll understand why. The chef-owner is so particular about the quality of his meat, he’ll rather choose not to sell it rather than to feed his customers sub-par food. Ignore the humble surroundings, for Hammee’s puts out burgers that can rival those in restaurants costing twice or even thrice as much.

BurgerLabo
One of the best rated burger restaurants in Singapore, BurgerLabo elevates the process of burger preparation to a scientific level. With the amount of R&D that has been put into developing the menu, from the patties down to the buns, you know you’re in the right place for an ethereal burger experience.
Granted, their prices are easily double or triple compared to any of the other burgers on this list, but BurgerLabo justifies it with the absolute quality of their ingredients, not to mention the sheer effort that was put into developing these burgers to begin with. A wagyu burger using A4 grade wagyu, or a cod fillet burger using wild-caught cod from New Zealand? Get us a table already.

Unlike the others, Meatsmith is not a burger shop. Instead, it is an American barbecue restaurant that also offers burgers. And, these burgers are only available for takeaway, so you have to find some place to eat them.
Available only from Sunday to Thursday, with a different burger for each day, check their online ordering platform to place your order before heading down on the specified day to savour their deliciousness. While this might seem unorthodox or even a little pretentious, a no-frills concept like this allows Meatsmith to sell their burgers at $10 each, GST included. For such quality at such a wallet friendly price, we’ll eat in our cars if we have to.

Hambaobao
Formerly located at Beauty World Food Centre before closing in 2019, Hambaobao reopened in September 2021 at Trio, where Goldenroy Sourdough Pizza is also at. While they are now located in a proper shop space, they didn’t forget about their humble beginnings, and still churn out delicious burgers at wallet friendly prices.
The menu from their time at Beauty World was brought over to their new place, together with new menu additions of desserts. The desserts are good, but the burgers are still where it’s at. Where else can you get an Ayam Buah Keluak burger, or their crispy pork belly burger, with shatteringly crispy skin and a delightful crunch?
