The Future is Now: Kia's Latest EV6 Electric Sports Crossover Officially Unveils in Singapore
The wait is finally over. Kia’s highly-anticipated EV6 sports crossover has landed in Singapore, and this may very well be the Korean carmaker's fastest and most capable performance car yet.
Cycle & Carriage Kia officially unveiled the EV6 earlier today at the Changi Experience Studio, an interactive exhibition space located at Jewel Changi Airport. The automotive group’s Managing Director Wilfrid Foo, along with radio personality and event emcee Joakim Gomez, were present to kick things off.
Two flavours of Kia’s latest electric powerhouse will be made available for the Singapore market: the Standard (Single Motor / Standard Range) and the GT-Line (Dual Motor / Long Range).
Fast Car With Fast Charging Capabilities
The former has an output of 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 325 bhp and 605 Nm of torque. Century sprint figures are impressive regardless of which variant you choose (8.5 seconds on the Standard vs 5.2 seconds on the GT-Line).
Range-wise, both EV6 models show lots of promise. According to Kia’s press release, the Standard is capable of covering 394 kilometres, which is the equivalent of travelling from Singapore to Genting Highlands in Malaysia. The more powerful GT-Line, which has a larger 77.4 kWh battery (compared to the Standard’s 58 kWh pack), has a range estimate of 506 kilometres.
The EV6 boasts an 800 V ultra-fast charging capability with zero emissions. Essentially, this feature allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. According to the automaker, this translates to charging the car only once every 10 days, based on 20,000 km mileage travelled annually.
It also comes with Vehicle-2-Load (V2L) functionality, which allows for the EV6 to power electrical appliances. The EV6 is said to provide up to 3.6 kW of power with this.
A New Platform For A New Age
The EV6 sits atop Kia's latest Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP. It comes after the company's major rebranding efforts in 2021, and as its name suggests, is designed to seamlessly adapt to various types of car categories, be it a sedan or an SUV.
This also allows for the cabin space of the EV6 to be incredibly spacious with plenty of cargo and storage spaces abound.
Sustainability is the name of the game here, and Kia has opted to fit their latest electric car with refined suede and vegan leather for the upholstery, as well as recycled PETs & plastics for the dashboard, map pockets, and floor mats.
It is also packed with the latest technologies, befitting of its futuristic looks. Some of its advanced features include a smart regenerative braking system, dual panoramic 12.3-inch curved displays, and Remote Smart Parking Assist, a first for the automaker.
And like the new Niro Hybrid (review out soon!), it features a two-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel and a rotary dial shifter.
Style and Substance
A clear indicator of Kia commitment towards being major player in the EV game is the EV6's impossibly good looks. Its rear fascia features curvaceous lines that you might otherwise associate with an Aston Martin, and muscular arches that highlight the powerful nature of the car.
It's no wonder that the EV6 is already making waves across the world, snagging awards left, right, and centre. The coveted 2022 European Car of The Year (COTY) and 2022 Red Dot Design Awards were some of the more prestigious accolades given to the EV6, just to name a few.
Priced at S$253,999 for the Standard and S$288,999 for the GT-Line (inclusive of COE), the Kia EV6 is set to give the Tesla Model 3 and the Polestar 2 (both Single and Dual Motor variants) a good run for their money.
