There’s a New Premium MPV in Town. And It Is All-Electric

There has always been strong demand for premium MPVs locally. And with the launch of the all-new Maxus MIFA 9, car shoppers now have an additional option to choose from.

This Chinese MPV is the only dedicated electric vehicle in its class, and boasts some impressive technical specifications. It is a true seven seater (adults will not struggle for room even in the third row), that boasts up to 435 kilometres of range on a single charge.

Propulsion comes from a front-mounted electric motor that puts out 180 kW, and 350 Nm of torque. It draws its current from a 90 kWh battery pack, which can be charged at AC 11 kW, and DC 120 kW. A 5-100% charge via AC will take 8.5 hours, ideal for overnight charging, and 30%-80% via DC will take just 30 minutes.

The car boasts one of the longest wheelbases in its class, coming in at 3,200mm, some 200mm longer than some of its closest competitors. This also means that, and as mentioned above, passengers will have no problem finding a comfortable position within the cabin. Though this is a three row vehicle, the highlight would have to be the captain’s chairs in the middle row.

These seats have massage and recline functions, and even a footrest. They are also ventilated. And the comfort features don’t stop there. Multi-zone climate control, wireless phone charging dual sunroofs and interior ambient lighting all help to create a truly premium experience on the go.

On the safety front, this vehicle comes equipped with a 360 Degree Panoramic Camera, as well as your usual suite of active safety systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The MIFA 9 retails for $282,999 at launch, putting it squarely in the firing line of its Japanese rivals. C&C will offer a five year or 100,000 km Bumper-to-Bumper warranty, with the battery pack itself guaranteed for eight years or 200,000 km. Buyers will also get to enjoy free servicing for the first three years or 90,000 km!
