Fellow Motorist: Markus Schuster, managing director, Audi Singapore
Mr Schuster, 49, has an Audi RS e-tron GT as his company car. We chat with the German gentleman on a rainy, quattro-ready day at East Coast Park.
How long have you been a motorist in Singapore?
Four years. I arrived in July 2019. This is my first posting in Asia, after working with Audi Italy and Audi Germany.
What do you like about motoring in Singapore?
First thing, it’s all short distances. In Germany, I used to drive around 80,000 kilometres a year. Here in Singapore, anything that is more than 20 minutes already seems like a long time!
What do you dislike about motoring in Singapore?
It’s not a dislike, but I think you have to drive in a very concentrated manner, because sometimes there’s erratic driving by other drivers. And other drivers might be easily distracted. Of course, coming from Germany, where a lot of autobahns have no speed limit, and it’s 90km/h in Singapore.
When did you get your driving licence?
I got my driving licence in 1992, when I was 17. I got it in the US when I spent one year in a Michigan high school.
Remember your first car?
My first car was an old Mini Cooper, in Germany. That was in 1995. I think the car was a 1987 model. I was hit by a pizza delivery van about six months after I bought the Mini and I had to scrap it after the accident!
What was your company car before the RS e-tron GT?
The one directly before this was an Audi S8.
