Singapore Motorshow 2024 - the best cars based on your motoring personality
These are the Singapore Motorshow 2024 cars you should check out first if they match your motoring personality.
If you’re an outdoorsy person who loves to climb mountains much taller than Mount Faber and bash through jungle like a ranger, yet you wish to save the planet somehow by not burning petrol along the way, then the upcoming production version of the Mercedes-Benz EQG should be right up your alley.
It will be an expensive exercise though, possibly exceeding $900k on/off the road when the actual electric G-Wagon lands in Singapore.
If you’re an outdoorsy person who likes to climb hills higher than Bukit Timah Hill and harder than Hill Street, yet you need a proper off-roader which is way cheaper than the German G-Wagen, then you should consider the five-door version of Suzuki’s “Baby-G”, the Jimny.
Stretched by 340mm and given two more doors, the upsized Jimny is a little more practical than its pocket-size sibling, but equally rugged. This tough cookie is not confirmed for sale in Singapore, so any hill-climbing on the cheap with four folks on board has to wait. Apparently, the cookie might crumble in this case, because the well-travelled five-door Jimny on display in Suntec is slated for the crusher after its Singapore stint.
If you’re a family man who needs to drive a multi-purpose vehicle because of your brood, but you prefer it to be more MTV and less MPV, you could do worse than the Kia EV9. The fully-electric flagship looks like a work of science fiction and goes like a space rocket with plenty of space inside. The three-row, six-pax cabin is configurable, packed with amenities and equipped for natively digital family life.
The big-battery motor generates 283kW and 700Nm, enough to put the EV9 driver on cloud nine and shoot all six occupants to 100km/h in 6 seconds flat.
If you have a colourful personality, love to play the card game Uno and tend to go off on a tangent regardless of topic, then the MINI Aceman is awesome for you.
The electric concept car’s explosion of cheerful colours and implosion of cheery knitted textiles are eye-catching, while the “X” roof rack and the “Union Jack” dashboard structure are intriguing.
The ace up the Aceman’s sleeve is the circular OLED display, which interacts with the man or woman behind the weird green wheel and can be personalised for a uniquely quirky experience.
If you have a bit of a split personality, like an Asian variant of Jekyll & Hyde, you should take a look at the furious Prius done by Borneo Motors.
The good side of Toyota’s signature hybrid, now in its futuristic-fantastic 5th generation, is evident in its fuel-efficient petrol-electric drivetrain and everyday functionality, while the bad side is represented by this particular Prius’s aero bodykit, custom wrap and upgraded wheels
The bad news is, this project car is not a package meant for sale and the official Prius passenger car is not quite ready to hit the road.
If you’re the type who believes that a free car is the best car by far, then you should check out the Nissan Kicks e-Power and Subaru Crosstrek e-Boxer on display at the lucky draw booth. Stand a chance to win either car (excluding COE) when you purchase a Singapore Motorshow 2024 ticket.
The Singapore Motorshow 2024 runs from 11 to 14 January 2024 at Levels 3 and 4 of Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. Tickets can be purchased online at SISTIC or in person at Suntec Singapore Concourse Level 3.
