The Johor state government is planning to reopen to Pasir Gudang racetrack, according to reports from Malaysian media.

A report by Bernama stated that Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, Chairman of the State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi are seeking an audience with the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to present to him the plan to reopen the circuit.

He said that the reopening of the Pasir Gudang could serve as a training ground for the recently incorporated Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Racing Team which features former MotoGP rider, Hafizh Syahrin, representing the team.

In response to queries surrounding the rumoured reopening of the Pasir Gudang circuit, Mohd Hairi said,"The Menteri Besar and I will seek an audience with Tunku Mahkota Ismail for his consideration to reopen this circuit, serving as a training ground for Hafizh Syahrin and other motorsport enthusiasts in the near future.”

The Pasir Gudang circuit was originally built in 1986 but has been closed for renovation since 2016. Its reopening has been long talked about and is something many Singaporean car enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for as well.
