Volkswagen Group charges into Singapore electric car segment with seven VW EVs, three Skoda EVs and one CUPRA EV
Volkswagen Group Singapore's Electric City weekend event (2024 May 10-12) showcases an array of new electric models - Volkswagen’s ID.3, ID.4 Pro, ID.4 GTX, ID.5 Pro, ID.5 GTX, ID.7 & ID.Buzz; Skoda’s Enyaq 85, Enyaq 85 Coupe Sportline & Enyaq Coupe RS, and Spanish CUPRA’s Born.
The ID.3 is a fully electric, mostly digital alternative to the Golf, with a range of up to 500 kilometres from its 58 kWh battery. In its second-generation form, the ID.3 features exterior and interior updates plus new body colours, along with the latest driving aids which make motoring in the most compact VW EV easier and safer.
The ID.4 and ID.5 are the core models of the VW SG EV lineup.
The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first fully-electric SUV, available in two flavours - $222,900 ID.4 Pro with an efficient single motor, 210kW and a range of up to 550km, and $242,900 ID.4 GTX with dual motors, 250kW and a range of up to 515km.
The $232,900 ID.5 Pro and $252,900 ID.5 GTX are the sleeker versions of the ID.4 SUVs, with similar electrical setups and lounge-like interiors, but with a coupe-like roofline to enhance both aerodynamics and aesthetics.
The ID.7 is the flagship of the VW EV family. It offers an ample range of up to 615 kilometres and a state-of-the-art cockpit, which includes "natural" voice control and a segment-first augmented reality head-up display.
The new VW EV with the most charm and character is the ID.Buzz. Inside the retro-funky-futuristic minibus is a roomy and versatile cabin, which is configured for five folks in standard-wheelbase format and six or seven folks in long-wheelbase format. This electric people-mover can move said people for a distance of up to 470km on a full charge.
In the Skoda section of VW Electric City, the star car is the Enyaq Coupe RS in Mamba Green. The sportiest member of the purpose-built Enyaq electric SUV lineup is a 250kW dual-motor, all-wheel-drive machine with a 0-100km/h timing of just 5.5 seconds. Other RS-specific features which differentiate the Enyaq Coupe RS from its regular Enyaq 85 siblings include sports seats, upsized 21-inch wheels and standard sports suspension.
Another newcomer on display in VW Electric City is the CUPRA Born. The battery-powered pocket rocket has 240kW of Euro electric power, 560 km of driving range and a century sprint timing of 5.7 seconds. The CUPRA Born also sports Spanish-outlandish touches in line with the brand’s boldness in the electricar arena.
Dr Kurt Leitner, managing director of Volkswagen Group Singapore, said at the event opening: “We proudly present the Volkswagen Group’s core brands all in one place. With many models debuting in Southeast Asia, this underscores our commitment to the region and Singapore as a key market. Beyond cars, families can enjoy pet-friendly activities, live performances and diverse dining options. We are confident that Electric City will provide an unforgettable experience for all attendees.”
