Important news for Singaporean drivers! Starting October 1, 2024, all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia by land will require a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP).

The Malaysian Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, announced on June 25 that there will be "no U-turn" on the VEP implementation. This means all motorists driving a Singapore-registered vehicle must obtain a VEP before October 1 to avoid fines or complications while entering Malaysia.

This news comes after rumours that the VEP enforcement would once again be postponed or backtracked as it has been in the past. The VEP system was first announced in 2017 but enforcement has been repeatedly pushed back following low take-up rates.

Although Singaporean motorists are setting about registering for their VEP, many are still complaining about the complicated and confusing process and delays in getting their confirmation emails.
