Malaysia's transport minister Anthony Loke has announced an update to the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system, streamlining renewals and deregistration for Singapore car owners driving into Malaysia.

Effective from June 28, 2024, these enhancements include online renewals, automatic cancellations, and timely reminders, ensuring a seamless experience ahead of the VEP's Malaysia-Singapore border implementation on October 1, 2024.

Benefits of the new online system

  1. Convenience and efficiency: The ability to renew or deregister VEPs online offers unparalleled convenience. Vehicle owners can now complete the process from the comfort of their homes or offices, eliminating the need for physical visits and long waiting times.

  2. Faster response times: According to Minister Loke, the online system ensures faster response times for queries and applications. This is a critical improvement for those who need quick processing to avoid penalties or disruptions to their travel plans.

  3. User-friendly interface: The online platform has been designed to be user-friendly, catering to both tech-savvy individuals and those less familiar with digital tools. Step-by-step guides and FAQs are available to assist users through the process.

  4. Enhanced data security: With robust security measures in place, the online system protects user data, ensuring that personal and vehicle information is secure from unauthorized access.

  2. Submit Required Documents: Upload necessary documents, such as proof of vehicle insurance and roadworthiness certificates.

  4. Confirmation: Receive a confirmation email once your renewal is processed.
  5. Deregistration Process

  7. Submit Deregistration Request: Fill out the deregistration form and submit any required documents.
  8. Verification: The system will verify the submitted information.

The OPS function will become available starting August 1, 2024. However, users can already download the MDGS application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to explore its features and customise it in advance.

Loke stated that following the VEP enforcement announcement, a total of 23,649 applications were received between May 28 and June 29, 2024. This number surpasses the 15,424 applications for the entirety of 2023. During this period, 6,120 VEP tags were issued to applicants, and 1,080 tags were activated.

The online system includes a dedicated support section to handle any queries or issues that users may encounter. Minister Loke emphasised that customer feedback is crucial for continuous improvement, encouraging users to share their experiences and suggestions.

The digitisation of the VEP renewal and deregistration processes marks a significant step forward in Malaysia's commitment to leveraging technology for improved public services. This move not only enhances convenience for foreign vehicle owners, but also aligns with the Government's broader goals of efficiency and digital transformation in public administration.

My RFID tag expired end Jun 2024. I submitted online for renewal RFID tag in end May 2024. Received an email confirmation of my renewal along with instructions to login to VEPAM ( TCSENS) to make payment and schedule appointment to collect the TAG. Managed to login but there is no option to make payment nor schedule appointment. Email query to TCSENS received neither acknowledgment nor any response after several weeks. Submitted online query/complaint to Ministry of Land Transport Malaysia and the query/complaint status was reflected as "Resolved" within a few days with message that my query has been directed to relevant department. That was 10 days ago and I have yet to receive any response or instructions. Submitted another complaint on the management of the the first complaint. Two days later, the follow complaint was also "resolved" with same message. Malaysia Boleh ? I have several friends with similar issues and incidentally, there is no option to cancel my renewal in order to reapply.
