AXS launches AXS Drive app for seamless, cardless parking at certain commercial carparks

The new app aims to facilitate the payment of parking fees at 100 commercial carparks across the island by the end of 2024. 

The application automatically charges parking fees incurred at AXS Drive-compatible carparks to the user’s credit/debit card linked to his/her car details. For now, only Mastercard is accepted by the app in a first-year tie-up with AXS which runs till 2025 June.

The idea, realised after a year of development, is to let drivers exit the carpark first and pay later, with the app handling the necessary payment through the back-end system, based on the vehicle’s registration number and IU/OBU (In-vehicle Unit/On-Board Unit) serial number. 

The app also resolves typical electronic-parking problems such as insufficient value in the stored-value card, errors when reading/inserting the stored-value card, and forgetting to insert/bring a stored-value card. 

For commercial carpark operators, the app is said to minimise debit errors, reduce congestion at exit gantries (due to the app’s accuracy in recording/verifying vehicle details when exiting the carpark), and simplify complimentary parking through in-app scanning of the relevant coupon’s QR code or barcode.    

The app is also able to register multiple vehicles (allowing a user to, for instance, pay for a family member’s parking), track the transaction history, and generate receipts. 

Season parking management (which includes HDB), road tax renewal and payment of government fines (including HDB, LTA and Traffic Police) can also be done through the AXS Drive app, although these same e-services have been available in the existing AXS m-Station app. 

With over 800 commercial carparks in Singapore, the current 100-carpark target by AXS (of which 55 have onboarded as of July 2024) will make up 12 percent, which might limit the usefulness of the AXS Drive app among motorists who prefer a payment mode that works almost everywhere - with or without a physical card.
