For about 25 years, since 1999.
When did you get your driving licence?
I obtained my driving licence in 1999 and passed the test on the first attempt.
What do you like about motoring in Singapore?
Road infrastructure is well maintained and serviced regularly by Land Transport Authority.
What do you dislike about motoring in Singapore?
The morning traffic congestion, but this is common in cities like ours.
Do you miss anything about the good old days of motoring in Singapore?
When the roads were less congested and there were sufficient carpark lots for everyone.
Any suggestions to improve road safety in Singapore?
Road safety education is necessary to raise awareness and improve safety on roads in Singapore. The education can be done in the form of outreach events, exhibitions or road safety talks.
Any ideas to improve road courtesy in Singapore?
We should continue to educate road users on road safety and encourage defensive driving - look out for potential dangers on the road, be kind and patient, give way to others.
Do you find driving to be fun, functional, or both?
Driving can be both fun and functional. Driving can be pretty challenging, having to navigate through different and sudden changes in road conditions, but it is a process of continuous learning, and learning is fun!
Which countries are your favourite for road trips?
Thailand and Japan, as we are able to enjoy the sceneries and stopovers during the journey.
Remember your first car?
Subaru Justy J10.
Tell us about your current car and what you like about it.
It’s a Nissan X-Trail SUV. It provides me with sufficient boot space to put all my personal and road-assistance equipment to aid others in need.
What were your most memorable past rides?
The most memorable was a Mitsubishi Lancer. It was fully made in Japan and lasted almost 10 years before the engine started wearing out.
What is your dream car?
Toyota Camry. It gives a very smooth and comfortable ride for me and my family.
What do you think of ERP 2.0 and distance-based congestion charging?
Based on my understanding, the new system will eliminate the need for bulky gantries and there are additional functionalities. Cannot comment much as I have not replaced my IU yet, but I believe changes happen for a reason and that the transition will be seamless.
What is your hope for Singapore motoring in the year 2030?
Smoother traffic and a greener transport system. I hope that the journeys can be safer and more pleasant for all!
