Catching up with Singaporean Alpine F1 Academy driver, Kabir Anurag

Kabir Anurag, 17, is a Singaporean race car driver who is part of the Alpine F1 Driver Academy. We catch up with him ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.

Kabir is the first Singaporean to be recruited to the Alpine F1 team’s driver development programme and one of several F1 hopefuls flying the Singapore flag high on the global motorsport stage. The teenager currently races in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, the first stage of the “Global Pathway” to Formula One. 

In April 2024, Kabir signed with the Alpine Driver Academy, a crucial step towards realising his dream of racing in F1. He’s in town this weekend with the Alpine F1 Team to take part in media activations as well as to shadow the team’s operations during race weekend. 

Looking forward to sitting in on the team’s debriefs throughout the weekend, Kabir mentioned, “Learning from their operations and bringing that experience back to my racing, so I can increase how professional I am in how I give feedback, work with the team, and drive better.”

His involvement with the Alpine Driver Academy focuses on multiple areas of development including engineering, data analysis, media training, and fitness training at the F1 factory in Enstone, England. 

“I get to improve my skills by learning from the best engineers in the business and using high-tech facilities to train physically and mentally”, said Kabir. 

He added that he’s in the best physical shape he’s ever been with increased physical strength and better reaction times, thanks to the fitness training done with the Alpine team. He even trains with Alpine F1 driver, Esteban Ocon. 

When asked about his plans for the future, Kabir remains tight-lipped about concrete plans but says he’ll be racing in single-seaters again for sure. 

Kabir will be returning to Italy the day after the Singapore Grand Prix to prepare for his next race in the Italian Formula 4 Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the same track used by F1 for the Spanish Grand Prix.
