Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that starting from 22 September, there will be two additional locations in Johor for Singapore vehicle owners to collect and install their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags.

The new collection points are at the Johor JPJ Complex in Taman Daya and the Road Transport Academy (Southern Region) in Larkin. On a daily basis, these locations can accommodate up to 800 and 400 vehicles respectively, according to JPJ's statement on 19 September 2024.

Currently, the sole collection centre in Johor is the TCSens office in Danga Bay, which can handle up to 300 vehicles per day.

Starting from 1 October 2024, foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore via land will be required to have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). The permit includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, enabling Malaysian authorities to track foreign vehicles on the country’s roads.

In addition to paying toll fees on Malaysian highways, the VEP is used to cover the RM20 (S$6) road charge imposed on foreign vehicles entering Malaysia.

To manage the high volume of applications, a Malaysia VEP office was opened in Woodlands on 19 August to assist those facing difficulties with their applications. Since 12 September, vehicle owners have also been able to collect their RFID tags at the Woodlands office for S$39, plus a RM10 processing fee for the tag.

Visits to the Woodlands office are now by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, motorists must enter their personal information, such as their name and car registration number, into the online booking system, before being able to choose an appointment slot.

The JPJ highly recommends that all foreign vehicle owners register, install, and activate their VEP tags as soon as possible to avoid future issues while entering or departing Malaysia.

Without a valid VEP, cars may be denied entrance into Malaysia or fined up to RM2,000.

Johor's two new VEP tag installation addresses are:

  • JPJ Johor: Kompleks JPJ, Taman Daya, 80990 Johor Bahru.
  • Road Transport Academy (Southern Region): Jalan Kebun Teh Lama, Larkin, 80250 Johor Bahru.
