Skoda Club Singapore marked its 5th anniversary at Goodwood Park Hotel

One of Singapore’s most active car clubs celebrated its 5th-year milestone in a big way with great camaraderie, nice prizes and its own IOS app.

The venue, for a start, was in the heart of town and saw probably the biggest gathering of Skoda cars (50) to date at Singapore’s signature shopping belt. The simply clever Czech fleet gathered at Goodwood Park Hotel included a pair of electric Enyaq RS SUVs from the dealership, showcasing the automaker’s first serious foray into the burgeoning BEV segment.

The five-year mark is significant in any automotive organisation, or for that matter, an automobile which is halfway through its COE cycle. 

In the case of five-year-old Skoda Club SG, its greatest achievement perhaps is taking good care of its members and keeping them engaged in the Skoda scheme of things. The estimated 500-strong membership base, of which about a hundred meet up regularly for group activities, is led by Christopher Kwek, the passionate Skoda/Octavia superfan who is the founder and president.

He has been instrumental in gaining recognition from Volkswagen Group Singapore and getting the German giant’s support. The club even introduced its own smartphone app (ready for IOS and pending Android approval at the time of publishing), which puts the membership benefits and club communications at one’s fingertips. 

One of the perks of being part of Skoda Club SG, of course, is attending the annual event marking every anniversary. The recent 2024 edition at Goodwood Park Hotel, put together by the 13-member committee led by Christopher, was supercharged by over 20 sponsors.

Motorist, the main sponsor, provided some cash and Esso petrol vouchers, plus complimentary six-month Motorist app premium membership worth $75 to every member of the club. Everyone who signed up has joined the many thousands of motorists who use the app to help them manage/maintain their vehicle, drive safer (with the Co-Driver alerts), buy/sell vehicles, learn from the application’s inbuilt resources, and even stand a chance to win cash prizes weekly.

The list of sponsors for the goody bags and lucky draw is even longer than the standard equipment list of a Kodiaq SUV.

The variety of premiums and prizes was in line with the club’s lifestyle pursuit, which goes beyond the burning of rubber and the running of engines.
