Motorist goes racing! Motorist joins forces with local racer, Aiden Chong, to take on Asia's only 25-hour endurance race
Motorist has joined forces with Singaporean racecar driver, Aiden Chong, and Team Supersonic Singapore to support their campaign in the 2024 Idemitsu Super Endurance Thailand 25-hour race.
This high-octane collaboration follows the success of Motorist’s involvement as an Official Partner of “Super Endurance: A Singaporean Story”, a documentary covering Team Supersonic Singapore’s 2023 endurance racing campaign.
Who are Aiden Chong and Team Supersonic Singapore?
Aiden is not just our very own writer and video presenter, he is also an accomplished racing driver with over 9 years of racing experience and championships and race wins across a variety of racing series. Most recently, Aiden won the 2023 edition of the Super Endurance Thailand race together with Team Supersonic Singapore, the first time a Singaporean team has done so.
For 2024, Team Supersonic Singapore is once again committed to a fully Singaporean driver lineup with six drivers selected to take on the challenge. Joining Aiden will be team owner, Shane Ang, as well as Kenneth Ho, Gladys Lam, Ken Hooi, and Roy Tang. The team is a formidable one, with every driver a former or current champion in multiple racing disciplines.
What exactly is Super Endurance Thailand?
This is the biggest endurance racing series in Thailand and one of the biggest in Asia. Last year, the race was 10 hours long, an already incredibly gruelling challenge for both car and driver. This year, however, is a much larger event. This year, the race is 25 hours long, the longest endurance race in Asia and one of just a handful of 25-hour endurance races in the world.
The event will feature competitors from all over the world, with big names and factory teams like Toyota Gazoo Racing, Honda Thailand, Tein Suspension, Rookie Racing, and even Akio Toyoda a.k.a. Morizo himself taking part.
What car will the team be racing?
The team will pilot the #323 Honda CR-Z which has been decked out in full Singapore colours and fully rebuilt into a proper racecar. The interior has been stripped bare and a race-spec roll cage fitted in its place. A special 100-litre endurance racing fuel tank has also been installed to lengthen the time between fuel stops, a crucial strategic factor in endurance racing.
The CR-Z’s original hybrid powertrain has also been replaced by a custom-built 1.5-litre, turbocharged, Honda engine mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox to produce over 250whp at low boost. The car will also be running on semi-slick Giti tyres with a set of Adtory racing brakes for maximum stopping power.
When is the race and where can I watch it?
Qualifying will take place at 2.50pm SGT on 20 December, while the race itself will begin at 5pm SGT on 21 December, running non-stop until the chequered flag falls at 6pm SGT on 22 December. Qualifying and the race will be livestreamed on their Facebook page and YouTube channel.
