HMGICS marked its one-year milestone with a town hall and a visit by Hyundai Group Executive Chair Euisun Chun

Top-level executives of the Korean automotive giant emphasised the strategic role of Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) in achieving the company’s vision for future mobility solutions - from Singapore to the world.

The distinguished panel that engaged with the HMGICS employees in a positive town hall was headlined by Executive Chair Chung, who was joined by Jaehoon Chang, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company; Juncheul Jung, executive vice president and head of manufacturing for Hyundai Motor Group; Alpesh Patel, chief innovation officer of HMGICS; and Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICs.

Executive Chair Chung praised the dedication and hard work of HMGICS staff, and provided further encouragement. “Our journey has been impressive so far, but the best is yet to come. We can meet the challenges ahead, because we are Hyundai and we have what it takes.”

Hyundai Motor president and CEO Chang added: “ We will proactively develop essential technologies for future factories, such as AI, robotics,and automation, and verify their effectiveness through concrete projects. The expertise accumulated during this process will become key assets for building smart factories and will be applied to Hyundai’s global manufacturing sites.”

The sites include Hyundai’s Georgia plant in USA and dedicated EV factory in Ulsan, South Korea. The additional expertise will eventually strengthen the competitiveness, efficiency and safety of Hyundai production operations worldwide.

For instance, the HMGICS automated cell-based production system for the made-in-Singapore IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 could also be applied to other mobility solutions such as purpose-built vehicles and advanced air transport.
