VEP not fully enforced, Singaporean drivers can relax for now
Singaporean drivers crossing into Malaysia have “nothing to worry” about regarding the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) enforcement for now.
While the Malaysian government initially planned strict VEP implementation, Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently clarified that full enforcement remains on hold due to ongoing system improvements.
The VEP, a digital permit to regulate foreign vehicles entering Malaysia, aims to streamline cross-border traffic and ensure compliance with local regulations. However, technical challenges and delays in application approvals continue to hinder its rollout.
Concerned over premature enforcement, some Singaporean drivers told CNA they remain uneasy despite these reassurances. Many have struggled with unresolved VEP applications, fearing premature enforcement could lead to fines or denied entry.
“I’ve been waiting for months to get my VEP tag. The system keeps crashing, and there’s no clear guidance,” said one frustrated motorist.
Malaysian authorities, however, insist that enforcement will only begin once the system is fully operational and fair to all users.
While VEP enforcement is paused, Singaporean drivers still face concerns like managing traffic fines, tracking Malaysia petrol prices, and ensuring cross-border vehicle compliance. Here's where the Motorist App comes to the rescue.
