mReview: BYD ATTO 3 100kW MY24 – As Good As Ever
The BYD ATTO 3 was refreshed for the 2024 model year and we had a go to see what’s new.
Tourists to our little island might mistake the BYD ATTO 3 as the national vehicle of Singapore, such has been the voracious appetite that our local drivers have had for the electric SUV. It’s not hard to see why, as the ATTO 3 has always been big on features and not-so-big on price.
For the 2024 model year, BYD has done away completely with the COE Category B version of the ATTO 3, leaving the 100kW Cat A ATTO 3 as the only available option. Cat B SUV duties will instead likely fall to the incoming Sealion 7.
However, just because the ATTO 3 might now be down a little bit on power, it still has all of the features that made the ATTO 3 so popular in the first place. The full suite of driver assistance and safety systems comes as standard, which means you get useful features like adaptive cruise control, collision warnings, lane keep assist, and the 360˙ camera for no extra cost.
BYD is also immensely proud that the ATTO 3 has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, a metric that’s undoubtedly crucially important to many if not all ATTO 3 buyers.
Said owners also have lots of other features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 31-colour ambient lighting, vehicle-to-load power on the go, wireless charging, and the ever-enjoyable built-in karaoke. You can even use an NFC keycard for smart entry and engine starting.
New on the MY24 ATTO 3 is the rotating infotainment screen on the dashboard that’s been supersized from an already-pretty-large 12.8-inches to an at-what-point-do-we-call-it-a-TV 15.6-inches. The dashboard-mounted jumbotron is one of just three changes that BYD has made to the MY24 ATTO 3, the other two being new colour options for the body and interior.
While it might not be the biggest refresh, the ATTO 3 was already a well-put-together product with little left for the consumer to want. The drivetrain remains the same as the MY23 Cat A ATTO 3, featuring a single electric motor mated to a 60.5kWh battery making 100kW (134hp) and 310Nm of torque.
As a Cat A vehicle, outright acceleration is more of a suggestion, evident by its 10.1-second 0-100km/h time. However, 310Nm is a healthy amount of torque and the ATTO 3 is still sprightly enough to merge into gaps in traffic with a little prodding.
The ATTO 3’s decently sized battery pack allows it to get up to 565km of city driving based on WLTP estimates although my 14.8kWh/100km consumption average over my testing only equates to around 408km on a full charge. Your consumption figure would probably fare better than me though. I blame my heavy right foot.
Recharging speeds might not be the fastest in the market but 88kW is still quick enough to juice up from 20% to 80% in 35 minutes and 0-100% in a little over an hour on a DC fast charger. I’ve seen several posts from ATTO 3 owners road-tripping up to Thailand and having no issues too.
The MY24 ATTO 3 might not be a super exciting new car or even a long-awaited mid-life refresh but the changes do keep it up to date with not just its competitors, but with BYD’s own new cars.
