Based on LTA data of new car registrations by authorised dealers in 2024, BYD was the top seller, although Toyota continued as Singapore’s most popular car brand if parallel imports were also counted.

BYD finished the year ahead of the Japanese giant by putting 6,191 units on the road, most of which (65 percent) were cost-effective ATTO 3 SUVs. The Chinese automaker did more than four times better last year than it did in 2023, when it registered 1,416 units and broke into the four-digit Singapore sales chart for the first time.

In second position was Toyota’s authorised agent Borneo Motors, which registered 5,736 new units. Another 2,140 were sold by parallel importers, taking the total to 7,876 units - collectively even more than new BYDs.

In third spot was BMW, whose two dealers (Performance Motors and Eurokars) delivered 5,042 units. In fourth place was Mercedes-Benz with 4,887 official Singapore-spec cars registered. The German marque is a perennial favourite among parallel import firms, which accounted for 214 new Mercs in 2024 and would have taken the tristar brand just past BMW (whose parallel-import “problem” was only 29 cars) in total registrations.

Taking fifth position in 2024 was Tesla, BYD’s American nemesis with the only other all-electric model lineup in Singapore. A total of 2,384 new Teslas were registered last year, all sold directly by the manufacturer, which finally managed to hit four-digit annual sales in Singapore after three years of coming close to it.

Just behind Tesla was Hyundai, whose 2,052 units put the Korean automaker in sixth position.

Occupying the remaining spots in the top 10 list of Singapore’s best-selling passenger car brands in 2024 were Nissan, Honda, Mazda and Kia.
