BYD unveils new 1,000kW charging technology that can recharge EVs in 5 minutes
BYD unveils new charging technology that can recharge EVs in just five minutes thanks to peak charging speeds of up to 1,000kW.
BYD has unveiled its new Super e-Platform technology, which the company says has achieved peak charging speeds of up to 1,000kW, giving its cars an additional 400km of range with just a five-minute charge.
The 1,000kW charging speed is also double that of the fastest Tesla Superchargers currently available for use.
Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, said, “In order to completely solve our user’s charging anxiety, we have been pursuing a goal to make the charging time of electric vehicles as short as the refuelling time of petrol vehicles.”
“This is the first time in the industry that the unit of megawatt (charge) has been achieved on charging power,” he added.
The first cars to receive the new ultra-fast charging capability will be the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV which go on sale in China in April with prices starting at 270,000 yuan (S$50,000).
BYD also announced that it will be building over 4,000 charging stations across China to serve the new platform.
