In the first COE bidding exercise of April 2025 after a three-week break, Cat A closed at $97,724; Cat B closed at $117,899; Cat C closed at $68,782; Cat D closed at $9,889; while Cat E closed at $117,002.

Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 2,162 bids for 1,138 COEs and its premium climbed by $3,222. Category A COE closed at $97,724.

Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,200 bids for 760 COEs and its premium climbed by $1,009. Category B COE closed at $117,899.

Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 382 bids for 267 COEs and its premium decreased by $1,307. Category C COE closed at $68,782.

Cat D (motorcycle) received 603 bids for 517 COEs and its premium increased by $378. Category D COE closed at $9,889.

Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 390 bids for 200 COEs and climbed by merely $11. Category E COE closed at $117,002.

Corinne Chua, managing director of Volvo Car Singapore under Wearnes Automotive, told Motorist: “The increase in prices is expected after three weeks’ break, but I thought the jump would be slightly more. This shows that the demand wasn't too strong even with an extra week of sales.”

Jason Lim, managing director of BMW authorised dealer Eurokars Auto, told Motorist: “The car COEs are around this level because most of the dealers are sitting on order banks and they had three weeks to sell more. But when the COE goes up, it’s difficult for consumers to understand. Stock markets are in the red, yet the COE market is going the other way. Investors are jittery, but the COE is still like this.”

Adele Lee, assistant general manager of Polestar under Wearnes Automotive, told Motorist: “We expected the global recession to have some impact, but seems like COE demand is recession-proof!”

Ng Choon Wee, commercial director of Komoco Motors which represents Hyundai in Singapore, told Motorist: “The bleak economic outlook from PM Wong’s ministerial statement on inflation, slower growth, and uncertainties might dampen the COE prices. Consumers might watch their spending on capital purchase. The upcoming Car Expo in May will see distributors giving more discounts and freebies to attract buyers, which might cause COE to increase further. In short, everything is uncertain in the near future.”
