The Honda Vezel/HR-V is one of the best fuel-efficient cars in Singapore. Let’s see what the 2020 version has in store for us.
With a new decade comes a new variation of the renowned Honda Vezel, also referred to as the HR-V, which is one of the most commonly seen Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) in Singapore.
Reliability is, of course, present in this facelifted version. Honda cars can be seen everywhere around the world as it’s a trustworthy and practical brand that is easy to maintain and has a low cost of repair.
Simple Japanese engineering and consistency has allowed them to build reliable cars for decades.
Drivetrain and Performance

This car comes with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder in-line DOHC i-VTEC
engine, producing about 129bhp, which is just right under the power limit to be
a
Category A SUV.
This car is very much “torque-y” with its power-to-weight ratio despite having a 1.5-litre engine. It’s a simple yet practical car that isn’t overloaded with fancy electronics and components, which could help ease your overall maintenance cost.
The Vezel also comes with an Eco mode. Indicated by the speedometer, it turns green when you are driving efficiently. If it turns white, it means you’re stepping too hard on the throttle.
Being a hybrid SUV, the Honda Vezel has a decent fuel consumption of 20km/litre for both urban and highway driving areas.
Interior

The interior of the Honda Vezel is built for practicality and spaciousness. Unlike the Toyota CH-R, which looks big on the outside and has a smaller interior, the Vezel is quite the opposite.
Despite being a compact SUV, you still get plenty of space for both your front and rear passengers, while also having a large boot capacity, which can be further increased by folding down the rear seats. This makes the car a great family SUV for its price.
The cabin is soundproof against road noise, although engine noise can still be heard. Due to its stiff suspensions, this car may give you a slightly bumpier journey as compared to other vehicles.
Apart from all that, the interior of this car has a simple, sleek look, housing only necessary equipment and features to reduce clutter. Apart from the stiff suspension, this car is still very much ideal for both short and long-distance travel.
Safety

The Vezel comes with eight airbags, brake assistance and other amazing safety features which is definitely something that many drivers should take into consideration when choosing what kind of car to buy.
It also has an anti-lock braking system, G-force Control Technology and a rear-view camera so that you can have a worry-free journey.
Also, when the car comes to a stop for at least two seconds, the engine switches off automatically to help save fuel, and starts up immediately when you release the brake pedal ever so slightly.
Price and Release Date

The Vezel/HR-V was released in November 2019 and comes in two variants:
- DX – from S$93,999
- Plus LX – from S$98,999

To Buy or Not To Buy?

You can see this car literally everywhere. Being a “hot pick” for Singaporean drivers, you’d probably have heard of this car, even if you’re not a car enthusiast.
Although it may seem like a “Grab Car”, the Honda Vezel is an overall safe, reliable and affordable car. If you are looking for an affordable SUV for its price, this car surely won’t let you down.
In our opinion, this family SUV is simple, practical and user-friendly. It’s great for family trips to Johor Bahru or even just for cruising around Singapore.
