In a move that will bring relief to Malaysian drivers on our roads, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced that the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) validity for Malaysian-registered vehicles will be further extended till 30 September 2020.

This extension supplements a first extension of VEP validity from March to June.

In his Facebook post on 11 June 2020, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan noted that this decision was made in response to the extension of Malaysia's Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to the end of August.

Malaysian motorists will not have to apply for this extension at LTA offices as this will automatically extended to all Malaysian-registered vehicles.

The Transport Minister also mentioned that it would be sensible for Malaysian motorists to send their vehicles home to save on VEP fees, which continue to be chargeable on a daily basis after the grace period of 18 March to 14 April 2020.

LTA has recommended that those who “wish to avoid accumulating VEP fees and who are unable to personally drive their vehicles out of Singapore may engage cross-border towing/transport services to transport their vehicles back to Malaysia”.

Malaysian motorists can update their Malaysia road tax and vehicle insurance validity dates using LTA’s VEP Digital Service here.
