Good news motorists! You will not have to pay for Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) until 26 July 2020.
ERP gantries will remain at zero until at least 26 July, LTA said on Monday, following its first ERP Rate Review after the Circuit Breaker period.
“Based on LTA’s monitoring of traffic conditions, traffic speeds on expressways and arterial roads in early June 2020 have remained optimal,” wrote the authority in a press release.
“ERP rates at all gantries will therefore remain at zero until the next ERP rate review.”
The outcome of the next rate review will be announced in the fourth week of July, and the new rates, if any, will take effect from 27 July 2020.
For those unaware, ERP gantries have been suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak since 7 April 2020. The first suspension was supposed to end on 7 May 2020, but was extended until 28 June 2020.
In a Facebook post, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said that “most employees in the CBD are still working from home as far as possible, and among those who need to go to their offices, many are adopting staggered work hours”.
“The evidence is in the MRT data of commuters going to/from CBD,” he added. “Road traffic, during traditional peak hours, has recovered somewhat but has remained manageable.”
He also said that LTA will expect traffic volume “to increase in the coming weeks and some local congestion may emerge” in time to come.
