(Photo Credit: Flickr)
Road tax renewal is part and parcel of owning a car in Singapore. If yours is due for renewal soon, here are four convenient ways to do it.
It's a well-known fact that car ownership in Singapore is extremely costly, and part of it is attributed to the road tax that every Singapore registered vehicle must have.
Before you proceed to renew your road tax, you need to fulfil the following prerequisites:
1) Ensure that you've cleared all parking and traffic fines.
2) Passed a vehicle inspection at one of the authorised centres, and;
3) Ensure your vehicle is insured for the full period of the new road tax.
You can then check your road tax fee and renew it for 6 or 12 months through one of the following quick and simple methods.
1. AXS Stations

The service is only available from 6am to midnight daily. With 900 stations all around Singapore, you can conveniently renew your road tax by finding the one nearest to you. Remember to check that you've fulfilled all the renewal prerequisites at least three working days in advance.
2. SingPost or Road Tax Collection Centre

Visit any SingPost or road tax collection centres located island-wide to pay your road tax in person. You need to produce original copies of your road tax renewal notice, vehicle inspection certificate, and certificate of insurance (CI) or cover note (CN). If you're driving an off-peak car, you also need to bring along your number plate inspection certificate.
3. GIRO

Simply fill up the application form and submit to LTA at least 1.5 months before your road tax expiry date. Make sure that you've fulfilled the renewal pre-requisites by the deadline indicated in your GIRO payment schedule that will be sent to you approximately one month before your road tax expires. You also need to have sufficient funds in your designated bank account on the GIRO deduction date. Click here for more information on the GIRO payment scheme.
4. Online

You also need to ensure that the pre-requisites have been fulfilled at least 3 working days in advance. Do note that the online service is only accessible from 6am to midnight daily.
