The new Lexus LS and LC Convertible offer unparalleled luxury and unforgettable exhilaration, epitomising that everything Lexus does is crafted for excellence.

Lexus Singapore has made available for sale their flagships, the LS luxury sedan, and the LC Convertible sports car, from 26 February 2021. The LC Convertible is available for a list price of S$534,800 (as of press time), whereas pricing information on the LS is currently unavailable.

Intended to display Lexus' commitment to excellence in both elegant luxury and high-performance driving, here are the key details you should know about their two latest flagship offerings.

Soft-Top and Cabin Refinement

More than just a stunning design with the top up or down, the Lexus LC Convertible's soft-top design allowed engineers to focus on accentuating the sleek lines of the convertible without significant intrusions to the trunk and cabin space that can come with a heavier, bulkier hardtop.

The Lexus LC Convertible features an innovative folding mechanism that opens in 15 seconds, even when the convertible is moving up to 50km/h, including a tonneau cover for when it is stored.

A quiet cabin free from outside noise and vibration is also an important part of Lexus’ Omotenashi principles of anticipatory customer care. The LC Convertible’s multi-layered canvas roof is effective in blocking out unwanted noise, and its hydraulic motor works quietly and efficiently.

Active Noise Control combined with sound insulation and absorption techniques suppresses unwanted noises and unpleasant sound frequencies. With a focus on aerodynamics such as the beltline and rear moulding, combined with the transparent polycarbonate wind deflector, wind flow inside the car is suppressed and excellent quietness is achieved.

Drivetrain and Performance

The LC Convertible boasts a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine, mated to a DirectShift-10 speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 470bhp at 7,100rpm and 540Nm of torque at 4,800rpm. The LC Convertible posts an impressive 0-100km/h acceleration time, to an estimate of 4.9 seconds, and its maximum track speed at 270km.

Although great effort is put into keeping certain sounds out of the new LC Convertible, the powerful roar of the naturally aspirated V8 engine is not one of them. To make the V8 sound more enjoyable when the top is down, a sound generator transmits sensual engine intake sounds through the dash panel, while an exhaust valve enhances the powerful engine sound.

Design Features

The new Lexus LS is equipped with high-grade LED adaptive headlights with BladeScan technology. BladeScan is installed below the newly designed, compact, three-bulb lamp units and clearance lamps that have an accentuated “L” design.

The deep headlamps and squarish sub-radiator grilles positioned to the outside help to form the confident nature of the vehicle’s stance. The colour of the grille mesh has also been changed to a dark metallic for a classier appearance for a more elegant appearance befitting a flagship product.

Comfort and Refinement

Lexus engineers have focused on elevating the sedan’s levels of comfort, quietness, and overall refinement to help balance a range of new dynamic improvements dictated by the new Lexus Driving Signature.

This philosophy applies detailed tuning, thoughtful component updates, and control surface upgrades to help drive the new LS to a new standard of vehicle control, balance and driver confidence. Developed with the aim of greatly enhancing the exceptional quietness and comfort that represent the Lexus DNA, is the culmination of thorough craftsmanship applied to even the smallest component — all the way from the vehicle’s powertrain and suspension to the positioning of the stitch points of the seats.

  • Air Suspension with Access Mode Control:

In addition to the vehicle height adjustment function which can be switched between Normal and High settings, access mode automatically raises the vehicle by 30mm to make ingress and egress easy.

  • Shiatsu Massage

The relaxation seats use a newly developed pneumatic system that inflates and deflates air bladders integrated into the seatback and seat cushion.

These are inflated to strategically apply pressure to the occupant’s body, while also applying warmth to the targeted areas. To create each programme, engineers sought advice from professional Japanese Shiatsu masseurs about the order of locations and method of applying pressure.

  • 22-Way Power Rear Seats and Power Ottoman

In the ultra-luxury LS variant, the rear seat behind the front passenger’s seat has more than 1 metre of legroom and a power ottoman that provides generous support to the lower legs so the occupant can relax in refined comfort.

In addition, it can be reclined up to 48 degrees (the largest angle in the segment) and can be raised up to 24 degrees to assist the rear-seat passenger exiting the vehicle.

  • Rear Seat Entertainment System

Featuring an 11.6-inch display that automatically adjusts with the seat position to maintain an excellent angle for easy viewing, rear-seat passengers can also enjoy videos, music and other media stored on mobile devices using Miracast.

The New Lexus LS sedan comes with three powertrain options: LS350, LS500, and LS500h.

Both the LS350 and LS500 utilise 3.5-litre V6 engines mated to 10-speed automatic transmissions. The LS350 is naturally aspirated and produces 310hp and 380nm of torque, bringing it from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds. The LS500 uses a turbocharged engine to produce 415hp and 600nm of torque, and can complete the century sprint in a sprightlier 5.0 seconds.

The LS500h also uses a 3.5-litre V6, but is mated to a multi-stage hybrid system that produces 353hp and 350nm of torque, bringing it from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
